David asks…
What clothing stores do you like to shop in and what type of job do you have?
My Fav Stores:
H&M
Forever 21
WetSeal
Urban Outfitters
American Apparel
Delias
I work in an Art Gallery part-time, and I’m a dresser for Fashion Shows and I’m about to get a position at H&M as an Visual Merchandiser/Sale Associate, I basically will do the window displays, dress the forms.

Serge Martin answers:
Sounds like you’re on your way to a really fun career.
I work in law doing research in our corporate library and i’ll be finished with Paralegal school shortly and then i’ll do that.
I typically shop on overstock.com because I can get all the higher end stuff cheaper. Like a month ago I bought a pair of Chip and Pepper and a pair of J & Company jeans for under $40 each.
If also like Loehmann’s and the Rack at Neiman Marcus. These are both stores where they ship all the excess stuff they didn’t sale and sale it for cheaper.
I’m a bargain shopper. I’ve also bought things from WetSeal, Forever 21, Hot Topic (love their band tees) and Express or wherever really.

Carol asks…
How long did you work while you were pregnant?
I know some people work up till their due date, and kudos to them but already the symptoms of pregnancy have interfered with my job. The problem is I manage an art gallery by myself.. there’s no other employees, so when I’m sick or late the place is closed. I’ve been late and missed days and I feel really bad. I also gashed my knee open and had to get stitches which lead to me missing a week (just my luck
) My boss won’t fire me because she feels bad for me but I feel bad for being such a crappy employee lately. I’m 27 weeks.. what would you do?

Serge Martin answers:
I ended up working until i was 25 weeks because i ended up getting contractions here and there..then as time went on they got worse, and i was on my feet all day (tanning salon) so i was ordered bed rest…if you feel as though you cant do it anymore, dont jepordize your babies health. It can lead to worse things. And nobody wants to end up in the hospital, cuz i’ll tell ya…it sucks. Now there is a chance i wont make it past 34 weeks. Take that into consideration.

Susan asks…
I want to major in art. But I’m so confused.?
I’ve always taken art class (out of school) ever since second grade. (Now I’m in 9th). So basically, I love art. However, I have NO idea what I want to do in the “Art World”! I DON’T want to become an artist that sells paintings at a gallery, that just isn’t the route I want to take. I want an ACTUAL job that requires art skills and good pay. But I have no idea what jobs there are! Please help, I just want an idea of what good paying art careers there are because if the only job available is selling paintings at a gallery, I just don’t want to go on the “art path”.
…But I love art…so much. I’ve always loved sketching/oil painting.

Serge Martin answers:
If you have an opportunity to do what you love, then go for it. Life sucks enough. Might as well have a job that you like! Lol
Okay. You could always go into graphic design. Or the advertising field. You can make a good salary with those professions.
You could study art and become a dealer. Work for larger galleries or museums.
You can go into set design for movies, television and print work.
There are so many possibilities.
And you can STILL sell your work in a gallery and give the gallery owner a cut for housing your work. Selling art can be very profitable.
Don’t let anyone tell you, or make you feel like that path isn’t worth anything.

Mark asks…
This is a question regarding a job interview?
I had a second interview a week and a day ago. I sent thankyou notes to each person who interviewed me. They seemed very enthusiatic about hiring me but I have not heard back. I called a few days ago and the front desk was very friendly when she knew it was me that called to see the status on my possible employment. Should I call again? I am anxious because they said they were hiring as soon as possible. It is at an art gallery.

Serge Martin answers:
It usually takes at least 2 weeks to hear back from them. They are probably trying to get their ducks in order such as setting up for the employment. When I had my interview for the job I have currently it took about 2 weeks to hear back from them. I was like you, very enthusiastic about getting the position and it was a very stressful time as well due to the fact it would be an awesome job. If after two weeks you haven’t heard back form them then give them a call to see what is going on. Most companies will let you know by phone call, or mail that you did not get the job, but again if you feel the way you do about your interview and you sent them each a thank-you e-mail( good thought by the way ) I believe your made for the job.
On the other hand if you do not receive it, don’t despair there are lots of other careers out there for ya !
Good Luck

Ruth asks…
Is this job posting I found on craigslist legit?
I responded to an ad on craiglist for cleaners and I found myself caught up in something a bit more. It was a man saying he lives in the UK and that he’s moving to my area and needs a housekeeper. He has now sent me a cashier’s check for a large amount of money and wants me to wire an amount to an art gallery through Western Union. Is this a scam? What should I do with the check?

Serge Martin answers:
Is this job posting I found on craigslist legit?
NO and that can be said of 99% or more of the jobs listed on craigslist……….
But this one in particular is so obvious do you really need to ask?

Serge Martin answers:
My family has a history of Shoe design and production.
The apparel crafts have an apprentice system. You could easily get a job as a sample runner and have access and exposure to elements in the process, like pattern cutters and designers. It would also give you real experience in a way which would give you a distinct advantage after you go to university.
It would be no time at all before they use you for the skill you like – design/art
Good Luck!.

Helen asks…
what job show cases peoples art?
I want to show case peoples art work. Especially in street art i want to show case it in galleries maybe open my own up what job is this?
what degree would i need for this as well

Serge Martin answers:
Gallery owner, Art Gallery Owner, Gallerist. They all mean the same. If its your own business you don’t need a degree, but most people start out working for another gallery to gain experience. In that case you will need to acquire substantial knowledge about art, A degree in Art history can be useful.
